How much do you spend on a night out?

Between the timely arrival of Dry January, and your bank account taking some time out to recover after a pricey December, hitting the town is perhaps the last thing on your mind.

It comes as no surprise that trading nights out for cosy nights in is a money and sanity-saver (no hangovers lingering around here!), but how much cash are we really splashing on nights out?

According to a 2022 Statista survey, the average cost for a typical night out in the UK totals up to an eye-watering £73.91 that swiftly exits your bank account most weekends.

With many of us becoming big spenders after a glass or 2, we are barely shocked that spending on drinks accounts for the biggest costs, after the survey considered every component of a night out including pre-drinks at home, entry fees, transport, drinks in the venue and the daytime prep that accompanies a night out.

With alcohol prices jumping to new highs back in August (you can read more about that here), it’s no shock that your nights out are now on par with the average UK household’s food bill.

You won’t just be saving your pennies on your drink-free days, as cutting down on your alcohol intake will save you a host of serious health problems in years to come. 10-20 years of excessive drinking (drinking more than 14 units a week) can lead to mouth and throat cancer, stroke, heart disease, liver disease and brain damage.

For reference, 14 units of alcohol is equivalent to 6 pints of average-strength beer and almost 1 and a half bottles of wine which many of us find all too easy to sink.
