Get your parkrun on for NHS’s 75th Anniversary

The NHS has teamed up with parkrun UK to mark the NHS’s 75th anniversary this July.

You can take part in your local parkrun on the 8th and 9th July to celebrate this huge milestone for the NHS and encourage others to take a step towards a more healthy and active lifestyle – whether you walk, run, jog or lend a hand as a volunteer.

This is the second time parkrun UK and the NHS have worked together in this way. In 2018, for the 70th anniversary of the NHS, an incredible UK-wide celebration – which was was spearheaded by former nursing assistant, regular parkrunner and Olympic gold medallist, Dame Kelly Holmes – was held which saw more than 146,000 people taking part as walkers, joggers, runners and volunteers, many of which had never been to a parkrun before.

parkrun UK is a brilliant way to get active with your community, and Alex Brown, Midlands Regional Social Prescribing and Physical Activity Coordinator, can certainly attest to this: “parkrun is a fantastic physical activity prescription for anyone as it provides a fun, sociable and inclusive environment and is welcoming to anyone no matter your age or ability. Whilst ‘run’ might be in the name of parkrun, walkers are very welcome, there are no time limits to parkrun and more than 13,000 people walk the course every week. Walking is a great way to soak up the parkrun atmosphere and is a fantastic entry point into parkrun, especially for anyone who may be taking their first steps towards healthier and happier lifestyles.”

Absolutely fabulous, brilliant delivery of all information interesting and enlightening. I have learnt so much about myself, my eating habits have completely changed. I feel better, I am able to walk for enjoyment and lifestyle. My skin is brighter and i don't feel sluggish anymore.
